Peaty's Whip Off

A whip is when a rider launches off a jump and throws the bike sideways in the air, the flatter and more stylish the better. A whip off is a contest to see who does it best, and on Saturday 15 August it lands at Twin Peaks Bike Park in Niseko.

Riders session Launch Control, our jump line, and send it over the main hub jump while the judges score every run. Peaty’s Whip Off is half contest and half show, a proper day out whether you’re on a bike or watching from the side.

Launch Control closes to general riding for the day so the entrants get it to themselves. Everyone else, come up and watch. Our event tent sits at the hub right at the bottom of the jump line, which is about the best spot to catch the action, and watching is free.

How it’s judged

Judges score every run on the official Style, Height and Intensity matrix. Land all three and you’re in the running for the podium, where Peaty’s are putting up the prizes for the top riders.

Before you ride

• Categories. Male and female, under 16 and 16 and over. The minimum age is 12.
• Protective gear is required for every practice and competition run. Helmets are mandatory, a full-face is strongly recommended, and bring proper pads.
• Weather. The running order may shift depending on wind and trail conditions on Launch Control.
