About NAMBA:

NAMBA (Niseko Area Mountain Bike Association) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development, maintenance, and promotion of mountain biking in the Niseko region. We work with the local community, government, and businesses to create accessible and sustainable trails for locals and visitors alike.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Part-Time Assistant to help with trail development and permit application work in the Niseko region. You will support communication with government offices (e.g., National Parks, National Forests, Hokkaido Forests, and town offices), help prepare documents, maps, and reports, and organize essential planning data for multi-use trail projects. This is a flexible, task-based position ideal for someone with strong digital and organizational skills, an interest in outdoor infrastructure, and the ability to work comfortably in Japanese.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the creation and submission of trail-related permit applications

  • Communicate with Japanese government offices, forestry departments, and municipalities

  • Assist in the preparation of maps, diagrams, and layouts using Illustrator, Photoshop, and Google Earth

  • Maintain and update Excel-based trackers for application progress and deadlines

  • Translate or review Japanese and English documents related to applications and meetings

  • Organize project files, drafts, reports, and visual materials for official use

  • Attend occasional field visits, agency meetings, and community events in the Kutchan/Niseko area

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Japanese written and spoken.

  • Proficiency using:

    • Microsoft Excel (data entry, formatting, tables)

    • Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop (creating and editing documents, maps, diagrams)

    • Google Earth / Google Maps (GPS plotting, KML/KMZ editing)

    • Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.

  • Organized, reliable, and able to manage tasks independently

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with officials and local stakeholders

Preferred (but not required):

  • English spoken & written

  • Experience with permits, planning applications, or government documentation in Japan

  • Familiarity with land use regulations, forestry policies, or environmental procedures in Hokkaido

  • Background or interest in outdoor recreation (e.g., hiking, biking, trail building)

  • Residence in or near the Niseko/Kutchan area

Work Schedule & Conditions:

Part-time: 10–20 hours/week (flexible based on project needs and your availability) Mix of remote/digital work and in-person activities (site visits, meetings) Transportation expenses covered for work-related field activities
